Hi folks!!
My name is Jeff, I come from Larne and I'm 38. I bought my first White Dwarf when I was 11 and was a keen gamer (mainly rpg's, AD&D, Call of Cthulhu etc) for many years until we all grew up and moved on or turned to MMORPG's. Of those I've played Dark age of Camelot, WoW, Everquest 2, Warhammer Online and others but at heart I've always wanted to get back into tabletop gaming, particularly warhammer fantasy. Sadly when I gamed I couldn't really afford this but recently I've been dying to get back into the hobby. Every so often I buy rulebooks, miniatures etc then get disheartened due to lack of opponents and get rid of them all!
I can't believe I've never heard of you guys before and although I don't have any armies at the minute I'd love to come along to see what all the fuss is about and maybe watch a few games before I start to form my own forces, if that would be ok?? I've always loved the look of horde armies on the battlefield so would probably choose Skaven, Beastmen or Greenskins, though I'd also consider Wood Elves. As far as 40k goes I'd like to play it but I'm not sure which army yet.
I'd also be very keen to play any rpg's particularly D&D or ccg's though I've only ever tried MTG.
Cheers and hopefully I'll see you soon!!

Welcome to the boards Jeff, by all means come up and see us some time, you'll find things arn't as expensive as you think with our excellent membership scheme and the fact we don't mind who's figures you use for your game. (Mantics range is very easy on the pocket.)
Can't guarantee you won't start playing more than the 1 game system though

Hi Jeff, welcome to the forums mate.
Take a trip to Arkham (Wednesday nights are busiest) and have a look. There's loads going on and you'd be more than welcome.
Cheers

Hi Jeff,
Welcome aboard! Get yourself a trip up to Arkham as soon as you can - Larne seems to be well populated with Arkhamites so you'll doubtless find someone to game with (and to share transport duties/costs) fairly quickly. As far as getting yourself a game of Warhammer or 40K - most folks probably have more than one army and would doubtless be willing to lend you one for the night. Enjoy.

Re: Hi folks!!
Well, just back from my first visit and I have to say I'm very impressed at the setup you guys have!
I met Jamie who was very pleasant and helpful and at his recommendation I went for 40k instead of fantasy to begin with. I'm looking forward to calling out again during the week when there'll hopefully be more games going on and a more mature crowd in.
Many thanks for the welcome and I'll see you all soon!

Re: Hi folks!!
That's probably a wise starter-for-ten choice if you plan to game at Arkham because there seems to be more players of 40k than Fantasy. However, as was said earlier: you'll probably end up picking up another game system as well! Warmachine and Flames of War are the main biggies afaik.

And don't forget Secrets of The Third Reich, Excellent 'weird war 2' system allowing you to use your infantry alongside walkers and werewolves. (And don't forget zombies.)

Yeah, I'll definitely want to play fantasy at some point and I'm willing to try out other systems as well. Looked at the Flames of War website earlier and it looks good. Haven't seen any SotR stuff before so I'll have to look it up too!

Re: Hi folks!!
Welcome, I'm living down in Larne too so i know all about the lack of opponents, was always the same with me, I got disheartened because of it and quit tabletop gaming for many years, went though a big mmorpg phase myself and have played quite a few of those mmorpgs from your list!
If you want to try a game of fantasy or 40k I have armies for both you are welcome to try out. And I'm usually up for a game!

Re: Hi folks!!
Thanks guys, many good replies here!! I think I'm gonna settle on necrons for my first 40k army. There are a couple of reasons for this...
They look cool
They cost a good lot of points so I won't need too many helping me get started faster
They should be pretty quick to get painted
What do you think and are there many necron players at the club?

Re: Hi folks!!
Welcome to the forums Jeff, and thanks for the nice comments about our centre. Hopefully it'll give you the opportunity to explore new games with the great bunch of guys who use Arkham regularly. We're at the beginning of a new phase in the club, making the transition from our 'learning' period since we opened and over the next number of months there'll be lots of improvements to the facility and the structure of the club.

Good choice. I picked up Necrons with the same rationale and have had some very fun games with them. The quick-to-paint aspect shouldn't be underestimated! The Battalion box and a Lord will get you a 1,000 point army if you make use of the upgrades so you can get a gaming force pretty quickly and without too much expenditure. Don't ask me about tactics though, my win record isn't that great

Re: Hi folks!!
Cool, thanks again for the help...
Anyone know if the necron battle force and codec are in stock atm? Also, is it ok to nip out on a club night just to buy something? Can't really stay tonight but I could call in to pick them up.

Re: Hi folks!!
Kindrik check the sell section of the forums, lots of necrons being sold by Andy on the cheap. Built and painted to but since necrons are mostly metal its hardly a big deal and you can always base them and do detailing to make them your own.
