NAM (Charlie dont surf)
With the arrival of westwinds US Vrs VC minis, Andy B and myself have been having a few chats about forces, scenarios, painting and scenery.
I found this website while I was browsing for info on fireteam/squad types
http://www.eleven-bravo.co.uk/index.php
but this website has a lot more figure ranges to drool over
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/neil.shuck/bgv.html
I think the Secrets of the third reich rules will work well

Re: NAM (Charlie dont surf)
ok after many months I'm on the last leg of painting my US army. army painter anti shine varnish spray is amazing :)
just to flock the bases now and jobs done :) photos to follow, however the models are not the best, they are more like 1980's sculpts and facial detail is sorely lacking.. still they'll do the job and with a half decent jungle table? HUHH ten shun!
do I paint insignia? air cavalry (we were soldiers) marines (full metal jacket) regular army (platoon)?
I'm thinking air cav for helicopter insertions

Re: NAM (Charlie dont surf)
I am sorely tempted to pick up some of westwinds Vietnamese, just to try painting different coloured skin and to make me learn more about the war. That pack of southern vietnamese guerrilas for eighteen quid is what interests me, but due to painting vow I cant pick it up till I paint some of my existing stuff :(
Tbh your best thinking of a particular scenario or battle you want to re enact then have a go at it. SoTR should fit the bill tbh, love the rules so why reinvent the wheel, although that wee booklet beside the westwind stuff isnt to expensive.

Re: NAM (Charlie dont surf)
Andy you doing us marines?
Now what can I do lol
I'm going to comb through the secrets book and work out a few army lists I'm guessing most models would have assault rifles
Writing rules for choppas would be hard I'll have a tinkle at it in work

The Nam figures being used are 28mm, currently the West Wind models. However there are a couple of other ranges out there which you could use.

Re: NAM (Charlie dont surf)
I'll pick up my us marines tonight and bases.
I'm working on an army list for the USA and NBA, I am using the secrets USA list and taking out the weird stuff such as target range finders and the infrared sights as I'm sure they didn't have then in nam, I could be wrong. As for the NBA I'll use the russion list, they don't use body armour and have a higher cool as well as a camouflage skill, plus the ak47 is there all ready.
As for helis there not so hard to do, I'd say 3rp per one as transport and they carried what ten guys each? I'll look that up, I'll add the options to turn it into a gunship, what about the Cobras any one intrested in using them
Also I'll see what I can do for senarios, think ambush ones and I'll try and write a village one with hidden vc lol
So back to watching platoon for idears

Re: NAM (Charlie dont surf)
Ok I've written the USA list, it's not looking bad
I've just started on the heuy lol and hit a snag, the rules for disembarking and embarking in secrets are really bad, prob the reason you don't see many transports in games. If the transport moves over 6" you can lose models getting out of it...
So I'm going to written new rules for getting in and out of the heuys, we can play test both ways I'm sure.

Re: NAM (Charlie dont surf)
Not seen them yet.
So far I have the USA side of things done, the heuy wasn't as bad to do as I first thought. The flyer penetration table worked out rather nice, as did the getting on and off them, all I'd did was chop and reword a few things and it's done, should work fine.
At the moment I'm morning on the NVA list, I've had to drop the ranger skill as most of our games would be done on tables with lots of trees, which means the NVA would have been on a -2 before cover, so anything up to -4, alittle over powered don't you think. I'm also working on a cool think for them, called tunnel rats, which will cost 3rp. This is markers that you up on the board before deployment, they let the NVA get around the board and ambush the yanks, they can be blown up and seen by the use once they get with in 12" of them.
The secrets rule set is easy and fun to play, plus most people know how to play it, and this is inaffect a game of secrets with out the wierd. But hay if the nam rules work we can try them I dont mind, it's given me something to do at work to day.
Lol play testing heuy rules with a box of staples and a few Brit models was fun lol
Cheers
